Save Money . .

Consider installing a two-stage furnace that runs at 2/3 capacity on milder days to save on fuel costs.

Save money in the winter by reversing the motor of your ceiling fan and operating it at low speed in the clockwise direction. This produces a gentle updraft, which forces warm air near the ceiling down into the occupied space.

Save money on your heating bill by lowering your thermostat. You will save up to 3% on your heating bill per degree lowered over a 24 hour period (or about 1 percent per 8 hours).

Consider replacing your gas furnace if it was installed prior to 1992 because most likely it has a pilot light rather than an electronic ignition. An electronic ignition will reduce the amount of gas your furnace uses because it only activates when the furnace is in use.

Install a furnace equipped with a variable speed fan. Because the variable speed fan rarely runs at full speed, you will spend less on your electricity while experiencing a more even delivery of heat in your home.

Through proper use of an Energy Star qualified thermostat, you can save about $150 every year in energy costs.
